How To Hire The Right Company For Sheet Metal Fabrication

©Alumac

1. Determine your requirements

You alone know about your business, and no one can tell you exactly what you need. You must communicate what your needs are, and the manufacturer you choose should give you exactly what you order. Many companies specialise in different areas. Your work will be made easier if you can find a metal shop that can do a wide range of work like:

  • Help out with sheet metal prototype projects.
  • Precision sheet metal cutting.
  • Laser cutting.
  • MIG weld.
  • Metal manufacturing with stainless steel, aluminium as well as sheet metal.

The right company should ask you some or all of the following questions:

  • What look are you trying to achieve?
  • What amount of corrosion resistance is required?
  • What weight should the final product be?
  • What should the strength of the final product be?
  • What budget do you have for the materials needed?d
  • Are you wanting prototyping or custom metal work as part of the service?

2. Determine the cost

There is always a price tag to whatever you need, be it a custom-cut plate metal or special weld or made-to-order metal pipes. The reason why the price is not standard is because some quality metal jobs cost more than other jobs.

Always explain exactly what you require and get an estimate of what it will cost once you make your order. Different companies have different costs. Instead of sticking to the first company you talk to, you might want to get quotes from a few companies. There is always a chance of finding a better price or different speciality with the next company you talk to.

3. Testimonials

Ask for referrals or check the company website for testimonials. Get in touch with a few of the clients of the company you are thinking about and see if they are satisfied with their work.

If possible, go to the location and view the quality of the product steel fabrication created. Is it finished nicely and to specification? Or is there metal and welding spatter that have not been cleaned off? Is the metal bending precise?
